Before following the steps which I suggest, please keep the following points in your mind.
- The key to get into best engineering college is to WORK HARD and get GOOD SCORE
- In 12th standard along with JEE preparation you should be roughly clear about the branch (of your interest) which you would like to pursue.
- Right from 12th standard while preparing for these competitive exams, in your piece of refreshment time you should start surfing for top colleges based on your branch of interest.
- You should also score good in Boards and your State Entrance Examination so that the topmost colleges in your state will stand as an alternate option for you.
Please follow the following Steps :
STEP 1 : Start surfing for the colleges based on your branch of interest right from 12th standard (in your free/refreshment time).
STEP 2 : Make a list of all the top private/government colleges (Google will definitely help you)
STEP 3 : Checkout the individual college websites and try to find out their eligibility criteria, modes of admission (i.e. through JEE Mains/Advanced, Boards, State Entrance Exam etc.), fees, placement statistics (i.e. frequent recruiters, avg salary etc.), scholarship criteria, campus overview etc.
Some of the institutions have their own entrance exams (i.e. BITSAT for BITS Pilani, SRMJEE for SRM University, VITEEE for VIT etc.) which are comparatively easier than JEE Mains & Advanced.
STEP 4 : Find out the entrance exam (if any) details for that particular university and insert that in your list.
STEP 5 : Apply for all those exams (The registration for other universities entrance exam starts normally from November/December lasting till February/March/April)
Try to apply in maximum universities exam as it will always remain an alternate option for you if in any circumstances your JEE Mains/Advanced did not go well.
STEP 6 : Give these exams seriously even if you have not prepared specially for it.
(There is no special preparation needed for these exams if you have really prepared well for your JEE Mains & Boards, Just revising the formulas a day before appearing for these exams will give you best score in it)
STEP 7 : After you get your Mains/Advanced result you can easily get an idea of the top colleges you are really eligible for.
How to choose the best GFTIs (Government Colleges) ?
NOTE : THIS CRITERIA ONLY APPLIES FOR GENERAL CATEGORY BOYS, OTHER CATEGORY STUDENTS/ GENERAL CATEGORY GIRLS ETC. CAN CHECK THEIR ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA ON INTERNET.
- To get GFTIs, it demands a decent score in JEE Mains/Advanced.
- To get into NIT, if you are wishing to opt for prime branches (i.e. CS/CSE, Mech, EC, Electrical etc.) you need at least rank below 30K in JEE Mains.
- If you are getting ranks in the range of 30K to 50K you can get other branches (like Bio-Technology, Metallurgy, Manufacturing, Food Tech, Production, Integrated Courses etc.)
- In case of IITs, you can get prime branches only if you have rank below 7K in JEE Advanced.
- Between 8k to 12K you can get other branches (other than prime)
- So if you are in this range a normal confusion arises whether to choose NITs/IITs and opt for these secondary subjects or to choose private colleges and opt for prime branches ? : Well, if you have interest/willing to take interest in any of the above mentioned secondary branches (other than prime), you can definitely opt for NITs/IITs but if you have interest in prime branches (which most of the people prefer), you can surely go for other private colleges, Prime branches are those which really helps us to grow our interest.
- If one is getting ranks more than 50K (in case of NITs) and ranks more than 12K (in case of IITs), you will have to go for private collages only, but if you did not score well in mains and if you are eligible for advance there are chances to get IITs if you really work very hard.
